Charity: Music stars auction instruments for a good cause

Tribute to the victims of Hurricane Katrin: Stars like Bruce Springsteen, Lou Reed and Paul McCartney are auctioning off their instruments in Los Angeles. Bargains start at $ 500.

A guitar by Bruce Springsteen or a keyboard by Elton John: many music stars donated their instruments to a charity auction in Los Angeles.

The auction with the title “Guitar Icons” will take place on December 11th, as announced by the auction house Van Eaton Galleries. It is organized by U2 guitarist David Howell Evans (“The Edge”) and producer Bob Ezrin, with the proceeds going to their charity “Music Rising”. The music magazine “Rolling Stone” had previously reported.

Some of the 50 items on offer were donated by U2 members. Fans and collectors can also bid for instruments by Paul McCartney, Lou Reed, Dave Grohl, Rush, Radiohead, Pearl Jam, Tom Morello or Green Day. The cheapest items are signed posters by Eddie Vedder or Pearl Jam with starting bids of $ 500 each. Perhaps the strangest object, a golf bag and club by rocker Alice Cooper, is available for $ 2,000. Bids can be submitted online before the auction date.

The organization “Music Rising” was founded in 2005 and initially supported musicians and music schools in the US southern states who had lost their instruments in Hurricane Katrina. Currently, “Music Rising” is primarily committed to helping those affected by the corona pandemic.
