School project enables maternity ward in Africa

The Dr. Karl Köttl School in St. Georgen is starting the new year with a special project: It wants to finance the construction of a maternity ward in Ngeleka in northern Tanzania. The 80 square meter station is to be built right next to an infirmary that has existed since 2018.

Through projects by school children and generous supporters, the people of St. Georgen can raise a third of the costs themselves. Help also comes from the state government, which wants to support the project.

“Nevertheless, we still need more generous donors,” says project manager Markus Hagler. “We don’t want to start with the maternity ward until we have the money not only for the construction, but also for the complete interior design and completion. Everything just has to fit.” However, Hagler is confident of reaching the goal.

One who has already helped is the driftwood artist Karl Mayer, who supports the project with the proceeds from the sale of his wooden sculptures. He already handed over 1000 euros.
