The German Nature Conservation Ring, the umbrella organization for German nature and environmental protection organizations, also made positive comments. If the coalition partners implement the agreements “quickly and consistently, Germany will at least have a chance to keep to the 1.5 degree mark,” said President Kai Niebert.
Overall, however, the measures were not yet sufficient to achieve the German sector targets for climate protection, he added. The phasing out of natural gas combustion targeted by the new government is required by 2040 at the latest. It is also regrettable that the traffic light parties apparently could not have agreed on a socially supported increase in the CO2 price.
