Czech President released from hospital

The 77-year-old, who was treated there for seven weeks and was temporarily in the intensive care unit, is now being treated further in his residence in the Presidential Castle in Lany in Central Bohemia – by a private care company. The doctors would have recommended him to stay at the UVN. However, they respected his decision to leave the hospital, also because his state of health had “improved significantly”, according to the Czech media.

Already today, Zeman Petr Fiala, the chairman of the conservative citizens’ party ODS, will be nominated as the new head of government. Fiala leads a five-party coalition that won a majority of 108 of the 200 seats in parliament in the October election. This means that the previous Prime Minister Andrej Babis and his populist party ANO have to take a seat on the opposition bench.
