Strong criticism of the ORF gala in lockdown

Members of the federal government celebrated at an “aftershow party” after the program “without geniuses”, as the Vienna FPÖ boss Dominik Nepp denounced – and this while the country was in lockdown.

Since Chancellor Alexander Schallenberg (VP) could also be seen on a photo shown by the FPÖ, Nepp described him as ready to resign. For FPÖ boss Herbert Kickl, the “participants in the ORF party are all morally bankrupt and ready to resign”.

The ORF emphasized that the “Licht ins Dunkel” gala, like all ORF studio broadcasts, was a TV production and not an event and could therefore also be carried out in lockdown. The guests were participants at the gala, who also accepted donations on the phones.

For the alleged “aftershow party”, the ORF stated that there was no such party. The contributors were said goodbye after the live broadcast. It was around 35 minutes before the last ones left the ORF. “In the process, souvenir photos were apparently taken by individual participants, which, taken out of context, can give the wrong impression of a party situation,” it said.
